Sally M. Wagley
Sally Wagley

Sally M. Wagley practices in the areas of elder law, estate planning, probate and estate administration.  She serves clients of all ages, with a focus on helping older and disabled people, family caregivers, and families with disabled children.    She helps clients preserve their land, savings and other assets, access health and long term care, minimize estate and income taxes, and obtain public benefits. 

With more than 20 years experience in public, non-profit and private agencies serving older and disabled people, she has special expertise on health and long term care insurance, Medicare, MaineCare, nursing homes, assisted living, home health care, wills, trusts (including special needs trusts), powers of attorney, guardianship and conservatorship. 

Before entering private practice, Sally worked as a lawyer for Legal Services for the Elderly, Maine's Long Term Care Ombudsman Program and Maine's Bureau of Elder and Adult Services.   In 1998, she joined Michael Levey in his Winthrop, Maine law practice, establishing the firm of Levey & Wagley, P.A.

Sally has been a leader in the elder law field.  She has worked with others to develop state legislation on powers of attorney,  health care decision making and guardianship and conservatorship.   She is a former co-chair of the Maine State Bar Association's Elder Law Section, and a frequent speaker on elder law topics at seminars for attorneys and others.  She has authored two Maine Bar Journal articles, After Cruzan: The Changing Art of Drafting Living Wills and Durable Powers of Attorney (May 1992), and A Guardianship Changes in Perspective (January 1995).  She is an instructor for the University of Maine at Augusta Senior College.   She is a member of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys.

A graduate of the University of Michigan (B. A. 1978) and Northeastern University School of Law (J.D. 1984), Sally was admitted to practice in Maine in 1984.

Sally has been active in her community as a volunteer and board member of numerous community organizations.  She was one of the founders of Community Mediation Services. She has served on the Hallowell Board of Appeals and on the boards of directors of the Hall-Dale After School Program,  Coastal Youth Orchestra, and the Augusta Area Rape Crisis Center.
